Being a leader is a fulfilling position in life, but does require basic principles to being good at it.  There are some pretty basic principles that should be taken into account when you are looking to become a better leader.

Display Honesty, Trust, and Integrity

The people you will be leading will need to be able to trust you with anything. They have the right to be given all the facts and you should strive to be open and honest with them.  If you are honest with them and live with integrity you will gain their trust and understanding.  Simply saying “you can trust me” will not work; you will need to prove it.  You will also need to be honest about your mistakes, and not just what you do right.

Play Fair

It may sound a bit like kindergarten, but showing fairness really is a core principle to being a good leader.  You will want to define, communicate, and demonstrate a common understanding of fairness to your team at all times.  A good way to display this is by being honest about why you have made a decision or chosen to delegate to a particular team member. Being clear on how and why you made that particular decision will show that you were being fair in making the decision.

Recognize and Acknowledge Potential

No matter what rank in the field an individual is, they should always be able to reach their potential. What you can do as a good leader, is guide them to their potential and acknowledge that they have potential.  A simple good job goes a long way, but any form of recognition will lift their spirits and drive them to seek further growth.

Support Growth

A great leader will not limit their team but push them to grow and better their skills. A great way to do this is by offering opportunities such as training or mentoring, as these options will significantly enhance their skills and general growth.

By applying the basic principles a leader should have, you will gain the trust and respect of the people you are leading. It takes hard work and determination to become a great leader, but these basic principles will help you on the path to success.

You do not just wake up one day and become a leader. Becoming a great leader takes hard work and constant growth.  Any position of authority has multiple responsibilities at any given time, so it is vital for you to stay organized as much as possible.  Failing to do so will have negative affects as being a leader involves having a lot on your plate and rapid changes that need to be dealt with. Here are a few tips to help you succeed as a leader:

Schedule Everything

Have you ever had one of those days where you forget to do a few things and then you have to catch up or suffer the consequences? Most likely your answer is yes. This is why keeping a schedule is a very important part of being a great leader. You won’t be able to schedule everything, but the more you can schedule the more smoothly your day will go.  There are also days where sticking to your schedule is an impossibility, but you can still try to alter it as the day goes on and get what you can finished.

Establish Goals and Objectives

If you don’t have any goals or objectives how will you know what to do? The best rule of thumb is to create REALISTIC goals for yourself and break them down into daily, weekly, and monthly.  Establishing your goals will allow you to move forward with a set close date and help you stay on track.

Jot It Down

Keep a pen and notepad handy as much as possible, ideas spring up at the oddest times so you will want to be prepared. Another option is having a tape recorder handy (most phones are equipped with these) so you can leave a memo to come back to the idea later.

Get Your Priorities In Order

As said before, being a leader will require multiple tasks that all need your attention. This amount of pressure can become overwhelming and chaotic if you are unable to keep organized.  Setting each task with a priority level will allow you to become organized and work in a much better environment.  Obviously you will need to work on the vital tasks at first and work your way down. Just remember not to overload yourself and get stuck back in the chaotic rut.

Being a leader requires hard work and while utilizing these tips will not make you a super-leader overnight, they will help you on your path to becoming a great leader.

Obesity is the result of body fat accumulated in the body over time without expelling the fat through exercise in relation to the amount of food intake that created the fat. Of the causes, a closer look at genetic history might provide some explanation.

A proven cause of is environment. Populations who eat high fat content food but do not have access to exercise and physical activities have more obese people in them than others. However, another consideration of what causes obesity is genetics, which suggests the same genes that could manage low food supply at one time in history, today are not able to manage high food intake. Mark McCool offers more information on genetics and obesity.

Although most people can exercise in some fashion in their home or neighborhood, to fully combat obesity, regular high-impact exercises are necessary. But even if the issue of exercise is resolved, the quality and quantity of food overly consumed is still a challenge for many due to their genealogy.

People of a similar race and ethnic background have lifestyle differences beyond eating and exercise habits that might contribute to obesity. If a group has a tradition of inactivity, low metabolism, and a higher capacity to store fat, they might be subject to reaching weight levels that categorize them as obese.

However, knowledge of the contributing role genes play in obesity is the first step in combating it. Understanding how a body genetically responds to food, measures can be taken to change lifestyle in terms of food quality and intake and incorporating more exercise than the average person who has a normal capacity for storing body fat. Further studies are continuing in the scientific community on obesity, but for individuals to protect their own health, they might consider exploring lifestyle changes that contradict their genetic history and teach their bodies a new way of absorbing, storing, and eliminating fat.
